A volunteer militia group called the Oath Keepers has been taking residence in Ferguson, patrolling rooftops and keeping an eye out for trouble, but the St. Louis County police told them to stop this past weekend and they backed off.
The Oath Keepers are in Ferguson for two reasons: 1) to protect people’s rights from over-militarized police, and 2) taking a stand against “arsonists and anarchists” causing chaos in Ferguson, as one person involved explained to The New York Times.
But the presence of the Oath Keepers In Ferguson has concerned some, and the St. Louis County Police said this past Saturday that they will be arrested for operating without a license if they don’t stop.
The Oath Keepers have since left their positions, and the group’s founder says they’ll just be out protesting.
